The higher education landscape in Germany distinguishes between universities and universities of applied sciences. While the focus of a university is more on theory and basic research, the university of applied sciences is characterized by its practical relevance and application-oriented research. Universities of applied sciences maintain particularly close contacts with companies and regional and national institutions.
In Saxony-Anhalt, the universities of applied sciences also have fewer students than universities and therefore offer them - and of course their staff - a more personal teaching and research environment.

Teaching, research, transfer, and then? A professorship at a university in Saxony-Anhalt is very varied and offers scope for individual development. In addition to continuous professional development, there are also development opportunities in the area of academic self-administration.
Pioneering for the German research landscape: Since May 2021, the universities of applied sciences in Saxony-Anhalt have had the right to award doctorates and can thus independently guide their young researchers to a doctorate. As a result, the universities are not only taking on a pioneering role, but are also strengthening the state's scientific community and making the work of professors even more diverse.
The campaign for professorships at universities of applied sciences in Saxony-Anhalt was developed as part of the Center of Advanced Scientific Education (CASE). In order to ensure academic excellence at universities in the state of Saxony-Anhalt in the future, CASE is primarily dedicated to the strategic retention, development and recruitment of professors.
The CASE project is funded between 2021 and 2027 as part of the federal-state program 'FH Personal' of the BMBF.
